Funding Incentives for Clean Trucks and Advanced Transportation Technology
One of the NYC DOT’s priorities is to improve air quality in local communities. To help reach this goal, the NYC Clean Trucks Program prioritizes the deployment of zero emission battery electric replacement trucks, while also offering incentives for the deployment of non-electric alternative fuel and diesel replacement trucks.
Incentive funding is available for the replacement of older, diesel Class 4 to Class 8 trucks with engine model years 1992 to 2009. For each replacement truck funded by the NYC Clean Trucks Program, one older, eligible diesel truck must be relinquished and scrapped.
Battery Electric Replacement Truck Incentives*
There is no limit on the number of battery electric replacement trucks a fleet can purchase using NYC Clean Trucks Program funding.
Vehicle Weight Class | Incentive Cap |
---|---|
Class 4 | $100,000 |
Class 5 | $125,000 |
Class 6 | $145,000 |
Class 7 | $175,000 |
Class 8 | $215,000 |
*The rebate available for battery electric truck replacements will be based on the lesser amount of either:
- 75% of an actual dealer sales invoice for the battery electric replacement truck, or
- a cap based on weight class as listed in the matrix above.
As an example, a dealer invoice for a Class 8 battery electric truck is provided in the amount of $300,000. The Class 8 battery electric vehicle cap is $215,000, while 75% of $300,000 is $286,667. In this example, the incentive would be based on the Class 8 cap of $215,000,
Non-Electric Replacement Truck Incentives**
The program also funds the purchase of CNG, diesel-electric hybrid, plug-in hybrid electric, and new diesel trucks meeting specific requirements based on fleet size.
CNG | Hybrid | Diesel | ||
---|---|---|---|---|
CNG Replacement Truck | Diesel-Electric Hybrid | Plug-In Hybrid Electric | Diesel Replacement Truck | |
Class 4 | $30,000 | $25,000 | $55,000 | $12,000 |
Class 5 | $40,000 | $35,000 | $60,000 | $13,000 |
Class 6 | $50,000 | $45,000 | $70,000 | $20,000 |
Class 7 | $55,000 | $50,000 | $100,000 | $21,000 |
Class 8 | $60,000 | $55,000 | $120,000 | $30,000 |
**Incentives listed above are subject to change after August 6, 2020. Any changes will be made with at least 30 days’ notice. Actual funding cannot exceed program limits for replacement truck incremental costs.
Fleet Size Requirements for Diesel Replacement Trucks
1-14 trucks | Fleets may receive funding for up to 3 diesel replacement trucks. Fleets must purchase an eligible, all-electric truck to purchase any additional diesel trucks (up to 3). |
15 or more trucks | Fleets may not receive funding for diesel replacement trucks. |
How Will Funds Be Distributed?
Rebate incentives will be distributed to the participating dealership after the new replacement truck(s) is delivered to the applicant.
When Will Funds Be Received?
The timeframe between submitting an application and receiving the rebate incentive is dependent on when the application is complete and when the new replacement truck is available for delivery. This will vary for each program applicant.
